Tottenham evening headlines as Aurier set for exit and plan to hijack Willian deal emerges

Here are the latest Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines for Wednesday, August 5.

Spurs considering plot to hijack Arsenal target

Tottenham are ready to try and hijack Arsenal’s pursuit of Willian, according to the Express.

The Brazilian is set to leave Chelsea this summer after failing to agree new terms with the club, and that has put North London rivals Arsenal and Spurs on alert.

The Gunners were believed to be leading the race to sign Willian, with a three-year contract on the table, according to Guardian.

The report from the Express states that while Tottenham are heavily interested in Willian, who worked with Mourinho at Chelsea, they are yet to make a formal offer to the player as they continue to monitor the situation.

Aurier nears Spurs exit

Serge Aurier has reportedly agreed to join Italian giants AC Milan, according to Gianluca Di Marzio .

Aurier joined Spurs from PSG but has had a difficult time in North London with several high-profile mistakes blighting his time at the club.

The Ivory Coast international has shown a keenness to move to Milan, but the clubs are still to agree a fee for his services.

Milan are eager to first sell Davide Calabria or Andrea Conti before releasing the required funds to sign Aurier.

Meanwhile, the move would indicate yet more change at the back for Spurs, with Kyle Walker-Peters and Juan Foyth also tipped to leave the club this summer.

Andros Townsend: Wages caused dressing room unrest at Tottenham

Former Tottenham winger Andros Townsend has admitted a difference in wages caused unrest in the Tottenham dressing room.

Townsend was a product of the club’s academy, but he revealed that the arrival of Erik Lamela, on a significantly bigger salary, was the start of the issues. He subsequently left to join Newcastle before moving on to Crystal Palace.

“I’m going to be honest, I think it can [cause problems],” Townsend told talkSPORT . “I’ve had both sides of it. When I was at Spurs as a youngster coming through we signed Erik Lamela and when he first joined I was playing ahead of Lamela.

“He was reportedly on I think £60-70,000 a week and I was on about £5,000 a week. I was playing ahead of this guy, and I was nowhere near his wages so yeah it did, it does cause a bit of unrest.

“When I went to Palace I was reportedly on more than the players that were already there, and I didn’t hit the ground running, I wasn’t playing well, and it did cause unrest with players saying: ‘Hang on, how come he is on that amount, and I am only on this’.

“I think both sides of it can cause some problems.”
