Good evening, Tottenham fans. Here are your evening headlines for Wednesday, September 23.
Jose Mourinho’s classy gesture
In the pre-match press conference ahead of Thursday night's trip to Macedonia to face KF Shkëndija, Jose Mourinho demonstrated a touch of class.
The usual questions appeared to have been wrapped up before a Macedonian journalist appeared to share a touching story of how his late father idolised the Portuguese coach.
The journalist described how his father had told him to get a picture with Mourinho if he ever got the chance and if possible he wished to leave a framed photograph for his father’s memorial.
Mourinho obliged, promising the journalist that they’d be able to get the picture together before Thursday evening’s Europa League qualifier.
Here’s exactly what happened, with Mourinho’s response in full .
Tottenham chasing Milan Skriniar
Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold reports that the club are in talks with Inter Milan over signing Slovakian international centre-back Milan Skriniar.
Mourinho has reportedly been long been an admirer of the 25-year-old defender, as well as a long-time target for Spurs.
Skriniar was a regular for Inter last season, appearing 42 times in all competitions, but appeared to have fallen down the pecking order after the hiatus, with Antonio Conte tending to go with other options post-lockdown.
Here’s everything you need to know about the potential deal, as well as all the latest on Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik.
Serge Aurier snubs move away
Tottenham right-back Serge Aurier has turned down the chance to move to Russian club Spartak Moscow, according to Football Insider .
It’s long been reported that the Ivory Coast international will be free to leave Spurs this summer following the signing of Matt Doherty.
The latest report states that Mourinho has given the green light for Aurier to leave and chairman Daniel Levy received what he considered to be a satisfactory bid for the full-back. However, the 27-year-old is uninterested in a move to Russia and has turned the club’s offer down.
The club will now consider alternative destinations for Aurier, who would be the second right-back to leave this summer after Kyle Walker-Peters completed a permanent move to Southampton.
