Tottenham evening headlines as £35m star wants to complete transfer, Jose Mourinho triple update

Here are your Tottenham evening headlines for July 14

Hojbjerg keen on Spurs switch as swap rumours continue

Kyle Walker-Peters’ performances on loan at Southampton are sparking talk of a permanent switch for the right-back, and the possibility of a Saints player moving in the other direction remains a possibility.

Former Southampton captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg remains keen on a move to north London, according to the Evening Standard, with the £35m-rated midfielder potentially costing significantly less if he moves in a part-exchange deal.

The former Bayern Munich man, who joined Southampton in 2016, was stripped of the captaincy after failing to agree an extension to his contract.

His current deal expires in 2021, and he has only made one substitute appearance for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side since 25 June.

Jose Mourinho issues update on trio ahead of Newcastle trip

Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli are both injury doubts for Tottenham’s Premier League game at Newcastle, while Serge Aurier could also miss the game following the death of his brother.

Newcastle v Spurs: Jose Mourinho press conference

Manager Jose Mourinho revealed Ndombele picked up an injury in training, while Dele - who last played on 2 July - might return to training before the game but is unlikely to be match-ready.

"Serge Aurier of course a big question mark in this moment," Mourinho said of the right-back, whose younger sibling was shot dead in France.

"At the moment just myself and others in the club spoke to him just to support him in a tragic moment for him and his family,” the manager continued.

"His way of reacting, every person is a different feeling. So we are going to respect 100% Serge's decisions and no pressure from us.”

Spurs could finish the current round of games as high as sixth or as low as 10th, depending on their own result and the results of others.

Mourinho calls Manchester City UEFA ban reversal a “disgraceful decision”

Manchester City’s two-year ban from European competition has been overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, prompting Jose Mourinho to hit out at the decision.

City have been fined €10m, but will be allowed to play in next season’s Champions League after their original ban was reversed.

“If you’re not guilty you’re not punished. In the other way, if you’re guilty you should be banned. So it's also a disgraceful decision. In any case, it’s a disaster," Mourinho said.

"Why are you paying eight or nine million if you are not guilty. If they are not guilty the decision is a disgrace. If you are guilty the decision is also a disgrace. If you’re guilty you should be banned from the competition.

"My criticism is not for Manchester City. I’m nobody to know if they’re guilty or not. My criticism is for the decision."

The CAS decision rules out the possibility of the Premier League’s fifth-placed team qualifying for the Champions League via their league position, though Manchester United and Wolves could still qualify for the competition by winning this season’s Europa League.
