Tottenham evening headlines as £13.5m transfer link emerges and new deals revealed

Here are the Tottenham Hotspur evening headlines on Monday, June 22.

Son Heung-min could help Spurs to signing

Tottenham Hotspur are now believed to be the favourites to sign Beijing Guoan defender Kim Min-jae - nicknamed 'Monster' - this summer and could use Son Heung-min to help them gain an advantage.

HITC reports Spurs are now leading the race for the signing of Kim despite a number of rival Premier League sides also registering an interest in the player.

Kim is international teammates with Son for South Korea and that relationship could be key to Tottenham luring the 23-year-old to North London with Being Guoan demanding a transfer fee of £13.5 million for the defender.

Pep Guardiola makes prediction about Tottenham Hotspur next season

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes Tottenham Hotspur will be among the contenders near the top of the Premier League next season.

Spurs have enjoyed a difficult 2019/20 campaign, with Mauricio Pochettino replaced by Jose Mourinho and injuries hindering their success in both the Premier League and the Champions League. Guardiola believes their fortunes will improve after the summer, though.

“I think every season the opponents get stronger. Liverpool will remain the strong team they are, we are seeing how Chelsea are investing in this transfer market,” Guardiola said, as per Manchester Evening News.

“We saw in the last period how Man United made a step forward. Tottenham are going to recover a lot of injured players, with Son, Harry Kane and other players and with an experienced manager like [Jose] Mourinho they are always going to be strong."

Jan Vertonghen contract situation resolved as extension is signed

Tottenham Hotspur have extended Jan Vertonghen’s contract until the end of the 2019/20 season, resolving a situation that could have potentially seen the Belgian leave at the end of June.

The Belgian is set to become a free agent this summer after eight years with the North London club, but the coronavirus shutdown left him in a unique situation with the 2019/20 season set to extend into late July.

However, Vertonghen has signed a short-term contract extension to allow him to see out the season with Tottenham.

Spurs have also confirmed Michel Vorm has also signed a short-term contract extension which will see the Dutch goalkeeper stay at the club until the 2019/20 Premier League season has been concluded.
