Tottenham discover the key to transfer success and Mourinho has a Bergwijn decision to make

Here is your Spurs morning digest for Tuesday, May 19.

Tottenham’s forgotten man faces defining summer

Many might forget, but young Luke Amos will return to north London next season with hopes of furthering his career.

The 23-year-old has spent the year on-loan at Queens Park Rangers and has made great strides. He made 26 appearances this season under Mark Warburton.

Amos ruptured his ACL in September 2018 having only made his full debut on the opening day of the 2018/19 season.

Tottenham behind the scenes

Amos will find it hard to break into the Spurs midfield next season, especially having not played under Jose Mourinho yet, departing while Mauricio Pochettino was still at the club, but he could be a young option for Spurs to turn to if he impresses in preseason.

Bergwijn, Son give Mourinho difficult decision

Prior to the Premier League being suspended, Jose Mourinho was dealing with an injury crisis in the attacking positions.

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min were out for an extended period, while Mourinho was playing wingers and midfielders up-front.

However, with the Premier League set to return after a three-month break, when play resumes Mourinho will have a difficult decision to make.

This especially true in the wide positions. Son, Bergwijn, Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela, and Ryan Sessegnon all offer potential starting options. And on the left flank, Mourinho has decisions to make, especially between Son and Bergwijn.

Rob Guest of football.london explores the decision that Mourinho has to make. It is a good problem to have and it does mean that good players will be left on the bench.

Luis Campos the ideal Sporting Director

Spurs have plenty of important decisions to make this summer. But none might be more influential than hiring a new sporting director.

And there are growing reports that Spurs will target Lille director, Luis Campos.

Mourinho is a close friend of Campos.

The latter was a trusted scout from his time at Real Madrid and is credited with uncovering the likes of Bernardo Silva, Kylian Mbappe, Nicolas Pepe and Anthony Martial.

In November, football.london reported that Campos would not make the north London switch, but as Alasdair Gold writes this week, Campos could be the ideal option to finetune Tottenham’s recruitment.
