Spurs are trying to beat Manchester United to the capture of Gareth Bale.
The north Londoners want to bring the Welsh wizard, winner of four Champions Leagues and two Spanish titles, home following his exile at Real Madrid.
It could see a mouthwatering forward line under Jose Mourinho of 31-year-old Bale, Harry Kane and Son Heung Min.
Tottenham believe they will get a clear run at superstar as United have him as a back-up option in the event that they miss out on Borussia Dortmund’s 20-year-old, Jadon Sancho.
Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has made it clear to Bale that he has no future at the club and has wanted him out for some time.
Bale quit Spurs in 2013 to land his dream move to Spain and quickly justified the decision by plundering domestic and European silverware.
He has two years left on his current contract but is understood to be ready to blink first in his stand-off with the club in order to play regular first-team football.
As such both he and Spurs will be hoping Madrid subsidise a big chunk of his £350,000-a-week wages after tax to make the move happen.
With United still hopeful of landing Sancho, Spurs are moving quickly to land what would represent a much-needed coup.
United have already agreed terms with Sancho’s representatives but Dortmund have have steadfast in their insistence that the England star will not leave unless his £108million price tag is met.
United’s position so far has been that the 20-year-old is too high in the coronavirus-affected market, leading Dortmund to declare that Sancho will play for them this season.
With three weeks left of the current window, United have for some time convinced themselves that Dortmund would back down.
The Germans, however, have left the Manchester club’s hierarchy scrambling for alternatives.
