Tottenham 'desperate' for success amid rumours linking Harry Kane with Man City transfer

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan says that Tottenham Hotspur are desperate to start winning things again.

The north London outfit became one of the most competitive teams in Europe under beloved boss Mauricio Pochettino and his Tottenham side even went onto reach the final of the Champions League in 2019, a game they eventually ended up losing 2-0 to Liverpool.

That night in Madrid pretty much sums up Spurs’ most recent on the pitch success as they’ve so often fallen at the final hurdle when it comes to winning things.

However, even though losing finals temporarily hurts, Spurs deserve some credit for how they’ve conducted themselves in recent years both on and off the pitch, something Jordan’s applauded.

“Tottenham have been arguably one of the most competitive clubs over the last four or five years with Champions League finals, finished third in the Premier League, cup semi-finals and real opportunities to have won something,” he told talkSPORT.

“Off the pitch it’s unarguable that Tottenham up until recent times have been the lightning rod for how football clubs should be run on a wage structure, the building of the best stadium in the world and financial results that have been absolutely phenomenal.”

However, although Jordan believes Tottenham are the modern football club, he argues that they’re not exactly winners which is a label they need to change in order to totally satisfy their fanbase.

“But I suppose these would look like a school report of Tottenham Hotspur participating but never actually winning.

“Tottenham Hotspur as a football club has a desperate pursuit for its fans to actually put silverware in the cabinet.”

With new boss Nuno Espirito Santo coming in and best player Harry Kane wanting out, Spurs have again found themselves in a bit of a transition period.

Tottenham maintain that they have no intention of selling Kane this summer despite reports suggesting they will be willing to let him go to City for a huge fee in the region of £160million.

Nevertheless, even if Kane leaves, there will be a sense of optimism that they can achieve something under Espirito Santo, and hopefully for the fans sake, his appointment will bring them the trophy they desire.
