Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld issues transfer update amid Manchester United links

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has addressed speculation on his future after reports linking him with a move to Manchester United.

The Belgian international sees his current deal at White Hart Lane expire in 2020 after the Lilywhites activated a one-year extension earlier this season, although that also made his services available for a bargain price of £25m due to another clause in his deal.

That has reignited speculation around the 30-year-old's future, with United interested in a swoop last summer, and claims of the Red Devils' interest are starting to appear again.

However, speaking ahead of the Champions League final against Liverpool, Alderweireld revealed he is planning to stay at the club next season.

"I'm going to say the same thing that I've been saying for the past couple of years," he told the Evening Standard .

"The only focus is Spurs, because of this focus I think I had a good season as well.

"I have one year left on my contract, so in my head, I will play for Spurs next season."

The former Atletico Madrid and Ajax defender has established himself as one of the finest centre-backs in the Premier League since joining the division five years ago, initially moving to Southampton on loan before a four-year stint in north London.
