Tottenham defender tipped for Inter Milan transfer as Willian makes Jose Mourinho admission

Here is your Spurs morning digest on Sunday, May 17.

Inter eyeing Spurs defender Vertonghen

Inter have identified Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen as a potential signing in the summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, via Sempreinter.com.

The Belgian is out of contract at the end of the season but is yet to agree to a new deal at Spurs.

And he is reportedly one of three Belgium internationals - including Napoli’s Dries Mertens and PSG’s Thomas Meunier - on Inter’s radar.

Vertonghen may yet look to stay at Tottenham, although it is not clear what will happen with players whose contracts are expiring if the season continues beyond the end of June.

The 33-year-old is expected to seek an exit when the transfer window opens.

Willian dismisses Tottenham rumours

Chelsea winger Willian has denied suggestions that he could be set for a move to Spurs.

The 31-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with a switch to North London.

But he has insisted that he has made no contract with Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho.

“When I saw that news (about Tottenham’s interest), I was surprised – I said ‘where did people get this from?’ Because I didn’t even talk to him (Jose Mourinho) on the phone, and I didn’t meet him either, because I didn’t leave the house,” Willian told GloboEsporte.

“So, this news is not really true. I didn’t meet him. Of course, I have a good friendship with him, sometimes we chat. But really, lately I haven’t had any contact with Mourinho.”

Manager Frank Lampard has suggested Chelsea will look to offer Willian a new deal, depending on when the current season can be completed.

Former Spurs striker tips Tottenham to sign Bournemouth star

Darren Bent has suggested Ryan Fraser’s future depends on whether or not Spurs make a move for the Bournemouth winger.

The 26-year-old, whose contract is due to expire in the summer, has been linked with a move to Tottenham.

Bournemouth could have the option of a short-term contract extension if the current season is forced to go beyond the end of June.

But Bent has hinted that a new deal is unlikely to change much.

“If he can go and show faith to Bournemouth then I’m all for that but again it’s another difficult one – it works on two ends of the spectrum,” Bent told Football Insider.

“For me, I’d sign the deal at Bournemouth because I’m always a believer that if a top club wants to get you out of somewhere then they’ll get you out. If a top club really wants you they’ll just come and get you, regardless of if your contract is up or not.

“If Spurs truly want to go and get Ryan Fraser, they’ll go and get him no matter what. We’ve seen guys leave places still have four, five years left on their contracts.”
