Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier: I was drinking too much before Sean Dyche turned my career around

Tottenham's Kieran Trippier has revealed that Burnley boss Sean Dyche put an end to his drinking and helped him turn his career around.

Trippier made 120 of his 185 appearances for Saturday's opponents under Dyche, before joining Spurs in 2015 and establishing himself as an England regular.

The 28-year-old was one of the standout performers at last summer's World Cup with his tireless displays on England's right but he has admitted that before Dyche's arrival he was partying too much.

"He helped me a lot," Trippier, who is expected to start at Turf Moor, told the Burnley Express. "I was still going out when I was younger – drinking – and I wasn’t looking after myself properly. He came in and sorted it all out.

"We were close when I was at Burnley and I would love to play for him again one day. We usually talk once every two weeks, just to keep each other updated on things. We’ve always stayed in contact, we’ve always had that kind of relationship. We’ve probably become even closer since I left.

"My career has totally changed. Burnley helped me get to where I am and I’ll never forget that.

"I’ll always be thankful to them. It would be nice to think that I could play for Burnley [again] one day."
