Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga names the Manchester United player he idolised

Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga has revealed that he grew up as a Manchester United fan.

Youngster Tanganga has burst onto the scene at Spurs in recent months and has emerged as key player for Jose Mourinho's side.

The 20-year-old rose through the ranks at the North London club to make his Premier League debut this season after joining the club at the age of 10, but before he signed for Tottenham it was United who he supported.

“I actually didn’t grow up supporting Tottenham when I was a little boy," Tanganga told talkSPORT.

“I grew up with my dad watching Man United and I always used to see them on the TV when I was young.

“But once I signed and was around here every day, I just grew to love Tottenham. I loved watching them play, going to games and seeing them, so they became my favourite team.

"I wasn’t really a Tottenham fan before, but now I am.”

The versatile defender has also revealed that former United captain Nemanja Vidic was his favourite player and one he looked up to as he developed his own game.

"He was immense. He is someone I look up to, especially with the position I play. For me, Vidic was the one," he added.
