Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen training fully and feeling 'super good' ahead of Champions League Final

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has provided assurances that he will be fit for the Champions League Final clash against Liverpool at the weekend.

The Belgian international was certainly in the wars during the memorable two-legged semi-final defeat of Ajax, sporting a facemask for the deciding tie in Amsterdam after suffering a nasty head injury in the initial 1-0 home loss.

Although he featured for the full 90 minutes of the dramatic return leg, fears over Vertonghen's involvement in the final in Madrid on June 1 were sparked after he left the Dutch capital on crutches and wearing a protective boot.

The 32-year-old was omitted from the matchday squad for the final fixture of the Premier League season against Everton, though Mauricio Pochettino revealed on Monday that Harry Kane, Vertonghen, Harry Winks - left out of England's final 23-man squad for the Uefa Nations League Finals in Portugal - and Davinson Sanchez rejoined training last week and were pushing to be in contention.

Speaking to VTM Nieuws, Vertonghen confirmed that he was feeling good and would be ready to face Liverpool at the Wanda Metropolitano.

"I have fully trained with the squad last week. I feel good, super good," he said. "I have a history of ankle injuries, but I was only worried for half an hour - just after the Ajax game.”

He added: "The first assessments were positive - and you have to know that our physios are always very cautious. That gave me confidence.

"Still you have to wait for the scans, but they confirmed the diagnosis. After three days I got rid of the protective boot and the crutches."
