Tottenham defender Ben Davies warns ankle injury will keep him sidelined for 'a while'

Tottenham defender Ben Davies is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury in Saturday's win over rivals West Ham.

The Welshman, who was forced off after 75 minutes at the London Stadium, is still unsure of exactly how long he will face out and remains on crutches and in a protective boot days after sustaining the injury.

"It'll be a while," Davies warned on Tuesday night.

Davies had started just three Premier League games under Mauricio Pochettino before the latter's dismissal, coming in for Danny Rose when the England international was suspended or omitted from the squad.

With Rose's future at the club uncertain following the departure of Pochettino, both Davies and summer signing Ryan Sessegnon have the chance to establish themselves under Mourinho, while Jan Vertonghen remains a more experienced option at left-back as the new Spurs manager looks to shore up a defence low on confidence.

Rose was one of the poorer performers as Tottenham came from two goals down to secure a place in the Champions League knockout stages with a 4-2 win over Olympiacos on Tuesday night.

Beginning with the visit of Bournemouth on Saturday, Spurs now face a daunting run of five games in 16 days, including a trip to Mourinho's former club Manchester United on December 4.
