Tottenham defender Ben Davies out for up to three weeks with calf injury

Tottenham’s Ben Davies is expected to be sidelined for up to three weeks with a calf injury after Jose Mourinho revealed the defender played with the problem against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The left-back has withdrawn from the Wales squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers and their assistant manager Robert Page yesterday described the injury as “significant”.

However, Davies could return in as little as a fortnight, having played the final half-hour in the 2-0 win at Villa Park following an injury to Sergio Reguilon.

The result eased the pressure on Mourinho following defeat to Arsenal in the north London derby and Spurs’s humiliating Europa League exit to Dinamo Zagreb.

Reacting to a post from Tottenham’s official Instagram account that Davies had withdrawn from the Wales squad, Mourinho wrote on the social media platform: “when a player plays injured to help his team recover from two bad defeats, this can happen. a man, a team player”, accompanied with a thumbs-up emoji.
