Tottenham dealt new transfer blow as non-league Lewes winger turns down move with deal agreed

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be fairly busy in the final two days of the January market, in a bid to strengthen their side going into the second half of the season, with top four being the prime objective.

But so far, the club's pursuit of trying to acquire new players who are tailored to manager Antonio Conte's style of football has been a frustrating watch for their fans.

Spurs missed out on two of their top targets earlier this week, with Adama Traore unveiled as a Barcelona player on Saturday evening whilst talented Porto winger Luis Diaz looks set to complete his move to Liverpool.

To add further salt into the wounds, the club has now failed to strike a deal with non-league player Ollie tanner.

The 19-year-old winger, who plays for Isthmian Premier Division club Lewes, has been attracting interest from the likes of Southampton, Cardiff and Brighton, but it was Spurs who were able to agree on a fee for Tanner.

But despite this, Tanner has become the latest player to turn down a move to north London, with Lewes confirming the player's decision in a statement.

It read : "Lewes Football Club would like to confirm that whilst the club and a Premier League club agreed a deal in principle for the transfer of Ollie Tanner, Ollie and the Premier Club were not ultimately able to agree personal terms and he remains a Lewes FC player.

"Tanner missed today’s game against AFC Hornchurch due to an injury sustained midweek and we look forward to welcoming him back to the side as soon as he has recovered."

Spurs will hope that they can put this failure to one side and finalise a deal for Juventus' talented forward Dejan Kulusevski, who has been attracting interest from many clubs across Europe.
