Tottenham could see another outgoing on transfer deadline day as midfielder sparks interest

There has been reported interest from four Championship clubs for Tottenham academy star Harvey White, ahead of the January transfer window deadline.

Spurs have already seen departures of four academy players this month with Dilan Markanday making the permanent move to Blackburn Rovers whilst Nile John, Jack Clarke and Kion Etete have all gone on loan.

White has made 20 appearances for the Spurs Under-23s so far this season, scoring seven goals and also registering as many assists.

The midfielder has been given the captains armband in a number of fixtures for the academy side and started in all 17 Premier League 2 matches he has featured in.

The 20-year-old has spent the first half the season in N17, after returning from a successful loan spell at Portsmouth during the second half of last season.

The midfielder made 21 appearances for the League One side and when football.london spoke to HampshireLive's Jonty Colman, who covers Pompey, he admitted he thinks the youngster would benefit from another loan spell.

"At Pompey, he got to play a wide range of opponents and even started the 2019/20 Papa John’s Trophy final (played 12 months late) at Wembley," Colman explained.

"Plenty of great experiences, but a year in academy football will limit his growth. Let’s hope it is not too much longer until we see White back in senior football."

It was a bit of a surprise not to see the 20-year-old go back out on loan during the summer, especially after his successful spell at Fratton Park.

However, there is still time for White to make a move during the January window, which closes at 11pm.

The Evening Standard reported on Monday that there has been interest from Hull, Sunderland, Luton, Stoke and Portsmouth for the midfielder.

This interest is regarding another loan move, although interest from Stoke reportedly links to a summer move.

Another temporary deal for White could be beneficial to allow him to continue his development but, more importantly, get regular first team game time.

In Tottenham's most recent defeat against Chelsea, Antonio Conte included the 20-year-old on the bench as Giovani Lo Celso, Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele were all left out.

Conte may have looked to keep White in north London, to ensure he doesn't leave himself too short in that position.

However, the signings of Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur now look close to completion, with the former completing his medical at the club after his arrival on Sunday night and the latter having a medical in South America ahead of his move.

If Spurs also see the midfield trio make the exit away from N17, there may again be no space for the midfielder on the first team bench and if the interest is there, he may benefit more from another move away for the final months of the season.
