Tottenham could live to regret transfer decision as Juan Foyth delivers again for Unai Emery

Tottenham defender Juan Foyth is enjoying a fine run of form for loan club Villarreal.

Foyth joined the La Liga club ahead of this season on a season-long loan, linking up with former Arsenal manager Unai Emery in Castellon.

And he has quickly become a utility man for the Yellow Submarine, playing much of his time in a holding midfield role, as well as playing right-back and the odd game in the position Spurs fans know him for - centre-back.

Most recently, with Villarreal waiting for the return of the experienced Mario Gaspar, Foyth has played at right-back and he has very much impressed.

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho lauds Harry Kane's ambition

Emery's men have endured a tough run of form recently, dropping to seventh in La Liga, but they have managed to continue their form in Europa League, currently unbeaten in this season's European campaign, winning all games but one.

They stretched that unbeaten run to nine games on Thursday with a comprehensive 2-0 away win over Dynamo Kyiv, a win that sees them put a foot in the quarter-finals ahead of their home leg next week.

Foyth started at right-back for that game and earned himself the WhoScored man of the match award following a fine display, racking up a WhoScored rating of 8.03 having completed 81% of passes, won two aerial duels, 12 of 20 duels on the ground, three clearances and 11 takeaways.

That's some going for the 23-year-old who has Villarreal fans clamouring for a permanent move.

And it's one the Yellow Submarine might just pull off with an option to buy in the Spurs defender's contract heading into the summer.

Villarreal saw midfield Fulham talent Andre-Frank Anguissa slip through their hands last summer after he had impressed on loan, with Fulham refusing to sell the Cameroon midfielder permanently ahead of their return to the Premier League.

And learning from that mistake, the La Liga club made sure they had the option to buy in Foyth's deal so that if he impressed - and he has so far - they would have control over his future.

Could this be one Tottenham live to regret?
