Tottenham 'consider Fernando Llorente transfer return' amid Harry Kane injury

Tottenham are weighing up a move for Fernando Llorente less than a year after he left the club.

The Spaniard joined Napoli in the summer having been allowed to leave on a free.

An injury to Harry Kane is set to keep the Tottenham forward out for an extended period which may force Jose Mourinho into the transfer market.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Llorente could "sensationally return" to Tottenham even though he scored just 13 times in 66 games.

The 34-year-old is nearing the end of his career, but would allow Mourinho to play with a recognised target man.

Currently Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura are having to fill in, but neither are naturals at playing in the centre forward position.

Both were included in Tottenham's home defeat against Liverpool on Saturday where Kane's absence was telling as Mourinho tried to play on the break.

Llorente has scored four times in 21 outings for Napoli this season having been used predominantly as an option off the bench.

One of his four goals though was a strike against Liverpool in a 2-0 success for the Italians - one of only two defeats the Reds have suffered this season.

He also scored the vital away goal that sent Tottenham through in their Champions League clash with Manchester City last season.

The north Londoners are expected to make use of the January transfer window as Mourinho looks to plug the gaps in his squad.

As well as injury issues in attack the Portuguese boss is also struggling for options in midfield which has led to their interest in Gedson Fernandes.

The Benfica star has completed his medical and an announcement on his 18 month loan deal is expected on Tuesday.
