Tottenham consider £18m move for Swansea City defender and Man Utd target Joe Rodon - reports

Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a move for Swansea City centre-back Joe Rodon, according to reports.

The Athletic claims Spurs are "very much in the picture" for the centre-back, who's also attracted interest from West Ham United in recent weeks.

Manchester United, too, have also previously been mentioned as a potential suitor in this window, although any interest from Old Trafford seems to have cooled.

Spurs are now reportedly weighing up a possible move for the 22-year-old, who is believed to be valued at around £18m by the Swans, although they are also believed to be interested in the likes of Chelsea's Antonio Rudiger and Manchester City's John Stones.

It remains to be seen what impact a successful move for either player would have on any interest in the Welshman.

Sources at the Liberty Stadium have told WalesOnline there is currently no bid on the table for the centre-back, but clubs higher up the footballing food chain could well be tempted to test Swansea's resolve, given Rodon's sparkling form.

The defender is currently on international duty with Wales and is expected to play against England at Wembley later this week.

Spurs, of course, have until October 16 to sign a player from the Championship due to the domestic deadline for transfers between Premier League and EFL clubs, meaning there is currently no immediate rush to get a deal done.

The speculation around Rodon's future is testament to his stunning emergence at the Liberty Stadium, having been given his chance to shine under previous boss Graham Potter, while current manager Steve Cooper is adamant the player is destined for the top.

Asked if Rodon was destined for the top flight, Cooper said recently: "Yeah definitely. But I still think he is on that journey. He has only played just over 50 games – it might even be 50.

"We say every week, let’s hope he has better luck with injuries, he can get a good season under his belt and we can take it from there.

"But he is a player with high potential. I think he can get to the Premier League, hopefully will get to the Premier League, but that will down to him."
