Tottenham confirmed team vs Newcastle United: Ndombele, Son, Romero and Emerson start

Nuno Espirito Santo ended up having a near full strength Tottenham Hotspur squad to choose from to face Newcastle United.

The Spurs boss had spoken about 'big issues' preventing him from being able to name the same starting XI that won against Aston Villa before the international break.

Those issues were two players testing positive for Covid. However, following a string of re-tests in the subsequent days those initial tests were deemed to have produced false positives.

Espirito Santo did have to make decisions on four of his South American players with Argentineans Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso, Brazilian Emerson Royal and Colombian Davinson Sanchez all involved, the latter as an unused sub, in the early hours of Friday morning (UK time) which meant they needed to be carefully assessed to see whether they could play again so quickly at Newcastle after flying straight back to England.

Espirito Santo admitted he wanted to pick the team that beat Aston Villa before the international break and now he has done that.

That means Romero and Emerson play again just two days after turning out for their countries in World Cup qualifiers.

Steven Bergwijn and Ben Davies return from injury to take their places among the substitutes.

Here is the team that Espirito Santo has chosen:

Lloris; Emerson, Romero, Dier, Reguilon; Skipp, Hojbjerg; Lucas, Ndombele, Son; Kane.

Subs: Gollini, Davies, Tanganga, Sanchez, Winks, Dele, Lo Celso, Bergwijn, Gil,
