Tottenham confirmed team vs Newcastle: Pape Matar Sarr starts as Stellini changes tactics

Cristian Stellini has changed things up as Tottenham face Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday.

St James' Park will host fourth-placed Newcastle and fifth-placed Spurs with the teams three points apart and Eddie Howe's side having a game in hand. After the defeat to Bournemouth, Tottenham need to pick up momentum for a week that brings this trip, then a home match against third-placed Manchester United and a journey to Anfield to face a Liverpool side just three points behind them.

Stellini needed to alter the dynamic within the Spurs team and he has done that with what looks like a change to a 4-3-3, with Pape Matar Sarr coming into the side and Clement Lenglet dropping to the bench. The acting Spurs boss said he expected Lenglet to be fine to play despite being forced off against Bournemouth with a foot inflammation problem and the Frenchman is fit for a place on the bench.

Ben Davies returned to training after his hamstring injury and Stellini said that a late check would be made to see whether the Welshman could take a place on the bench and he does.

Arnaut Danjuma is a rarity in the Spurs squad in that he has confidence after his goal last weekend on his home debut for the club, two and a half months after he joined, but he finds himself on the bench again.

Here is the team Stellini has selected:

Lloris; Porro, Romero, Dier, Perisic; Hojbjerg, Sarr, Skipp, Kulusevski, Kane, Son. Subs: Forster, Sanchez, Tanganga, Lenglet, Mundle, Davies, Devine, Danjuma, Richarlison
