Tottenham confirm severity of Harry Kane injury as England star faces stint on sidelines

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Harry Kane faces a stint on the sidelines after tearing his hamstring.

Kane hobbled off during Spurs’ 1-0 Premier League defeat to Southampton on New Year’s Day.

The England skipper, who has scored 27 times for club and country this term, pulled up late during the second half.

He subsequently left St Mary’s on crutches.

Now a Spurs statement has confirmed: "Following assessment today (Friday), we can confirm that Harry Kane suffered a tear in his left hamstring during our New Year's Day fixture against Southampton.

"Our medical staff will continue to review the injury with treatment ongoing."

Following scans on Friday, Kane posted on social media: "Head up. Tough times don’t last, tough people do."

Mirror Football understands that Kane now faces a race to be fit for the Champions League second round showdown with German league leaders RB Leipzig, with the first leg on February 19.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho labelled Kane "irreplaceable" on Friday.

But the Portuguese insisted that Tottenham will not enter the January transfer market to seek a replacement for their main marksman.

"We have what we have. That's the squad that started pre-season, that's the squad we have for the season.

"Again everybody knows again the importance of Harry in the squad. I think irreplaceable, if you think about one player by one player, I think he's irreplaceable.

“But we have to try solutions with the players we have.”

Spurs face Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on Sunday, with Heung-min Son likely to lead the attack.
