Tottenham confirm Giovani Lo Celso hip injury: Spurs signing expected to return to training at end of October

Tottenham have confirmed that Giovani Lo Celso has suffered a hip injury which will keep the summer signing out of action until at least the end of October.

A Spurs statement read: "Giovani Lo Celso has returned early to Hotspur Way after being withdrawn from the Argentina squad due to a hip injury.

"The attacking midfielder sustained the injury during his national team’s match against Chile. He will now undergo a period of rehabilitation and is expected to return to training with the first team towards the end of October."

Standard Sport reported earlier on Tuesday that Spurs feared Lo Celso had suffered a serious injury while on international duty with Argentina.

Lo Celso returned to Spurs early following a blow to his left groin in Argentina's 0-0 draw with neighbours Chile on Thursday

The playmaker had insisted after the game that his injury was "not something to worry about."

However, following an assessment by Spurs' medical staff, the midfielder wil now be sidelined for several weeks - starting with Saturday's home match against Crystal Palace.

Lo Celso joined Spurs on deadline day on an initial season-long loan from Real Betis and Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has been gradually introducing his compatriot to the demands of Premier League football, giving him minutes from the bench in the last three matches.

Pochettino this week described the 23-year-old as an "incredible boy", telling Argentine radio: "He is a great footballer, he only needs time to adapt."

The injury is a frustrating setback for the midfielder and the club, particularly as their other summer signings have also been sidelined.
