Tottenham confirm first opponents on South Korea pre-season tour ahead of 2022/23 season

Tottenham have confirmed that they will face Team K League in the first match of their pre-season tour of South Korea this summer. With the coronavirus pandemic stopping clubs travelling abroad for friendly fixtures over the past two years, Spurs will be back on the road in July when they head to Asia.

Having announced their pre-season summer tour of South Korea back in February, the club have now revealed that they will be taking on a selection of the best players from Korea's professional league in their first match. The showdown will kick off the Coupang Play Series and it will take place at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on Wednesday, July 13.

At present Spurs' second opponents in South Korea have not been confirmed as of yet, with the club stating that their second match as well as ticking information will be announced in due course. Tottenham had initially planned to head to South Korea in 2020 but the pandemic halted their plans.

Following the announcement of the tour in February, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said: “We are delighted to be heading back out on tour after what has been such a challenging time for us all. Being able to take our team overseas during pre-season is always a key part of the preparation for any forthcoming season – I speak on behalf of all players and staff in saying we have missed being able to do so in recent years.

“A trip to Korea, in particular, is long overdue – we are well aware of the incredible support we have there, with many fans travelling to London to watch our matches in recent years.”

Tottenham's last pre-season tour was in Asia in the summer of 2019, with matches played in Singapore and Shanghai. Starting their friendlies with a 3-2 win over Italian giants Juventus courtesy of a stunning goal from Harry Kane, the Lilywhites then lost 2-1 against Manchester United in their next game.
