Tottenham confirm Ben Davies injury blow as key decision is set to be made

Ben Davies is set to undergo "an extended period of rehabilitation", according to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Welshman was substituted during Spurs' win against West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday, and was forced to sit out the 4-2 win against Olympiacos in the Champions League last night (Tuesday).

Davies confirmed that he was likely to be out of action for a while as he made his way past reporters on crutches following the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and Spurs have now confirmed that a decision will need to be made over whether surgery is required.

In a statement, Tottenham said: "Following ongoing examination and assessment over the past few days, we can confirm that Ben Davies sustained ligament damage to his left ankle during Saturday's win against West Ham United.

"Assessment continues to determine whether surgery is required with the Wales international defender expected to undergo an extended period of rehabilitation."

The news will come as a blow to new Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho, with Tottenham facing a busy run of fixtures over the next month as the Premier League games come thick and fast over the festive period, starting with the visit of Bournemouth on Saturday.
