Tottenham confident over new Son deal as Real Madrid's Gareth Bale stance explained

Good morning Spurs fans. Here is your morning digest for Thursday, December 3.

Spurs confident over new Son contract

Tottenham Hotspur’s hierarchy are confident that Son Heung-min will sign a new contract with the club, according to ESPN.

Son has been in excellent form this season, with 10 goals and three assists in all competitions and Spurs are looking to extend the South Korean star’s contract.

The 28-year-old’s current deal runs until 2023, so there is no rush, but the club are still keen to tie him down after his fantastic form.

According to Football Insider, Son has been offered a five-year deal worth more than £200,000-a-week to bring him in line with top earners Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele.

Bale’s Spurs future amid Zidane rumours

Real Madrid will not be able to recall Gareth Bale from his loan spell at Tottenham this season if they make the decision to sack manager Zinedine Zidane, football.london understands.

Real are reportedly close to sacking Zidane after Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat by Shakhtar Donetsk left the club’s Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.

The Spanish giants face a crunch game next week against German side Borussia Monchengladbach, who currently top Group B.

Madrid have not inserted a recall clause in the deal that saw Bale return to Spurs on loan and Tottenham also have the opportunity to extend his loan deal by a further season next summer if he impresses during this campaign.

'Bale doesn’t have anything to prove'

Bale doesn’t need to prove anything in a Tottenham shirt this season, according to teammate Ben Davies.

Bale is yet to hit the ground running in north London following his return to the club on loan from Real Madrid, but Spurs and Wales teammate Bale is backing him to come good.

“Yeah 100%, I think Gareth's an amazing player,” he said when asked if we will see the best of Bale this season, as reported by football.london.

“He doesn't need to prove anything to anyone - he's shown what he can do over the years. He's got the quality there and I'm sure it will shine through at Spurs this year.

“I feel like I always saw him at his best when he was with Wales so I haven't seen too much difference in him personally. But if you listen to the way people speak and how happy he is here, it is evident to see every day.

“He is buzzing around the place and playing, not playing. He is supportive of the guys and having someone of his presence and the history of winning stuff like he has got, lifts everyone here.”
