Tottenham confident Micky van de Ven will not need surgery on injured hamstring

Tottenham are confident that Micky van de Ven will not need surgery on the hamstring injury he suffered against Chelsea on Monday.

It is still unclear how long the centre-back will be sidelined but initial assessments suggest he will, at least, not require an operation and can do his rehabilitation with the club's medical staff at Hotspur Way.

Van de Ven's hamstring appeared to pop as he chased a loose ball in first-half stoppage time of the 4-1 defeat by the Blues and he was barely able to walk off the pitch, later leaving the stadium on crutches.

Van de Ven, a summer signing from Wolfsburg, was previously sidelined for around 10 weeks after suffering a hamstring injury for the German club in February 2022.

Richarlison, who has been left out of the Brazil squad for the upcoming internationals, revealed on Monday that he would have surgery "soon" on a pelvis injury, although for now the forward is continuing to play with the problem.

Ange Postecoglou will also be without centre-back Cristian Romero through suspension for the next three games, while left-back Destiny Udogie will serve a one-match ban at Wolves on Saturday after both players were sent off against Chelsea.

Teenage defender Ashley Phillips, a summer signing from Blackburn, is on standby for his first minutes of the season, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Ben Davies and Emerson Royal Spurs' other options to fill in at centre-back alongside Eric Dier.

Spurs head coach Postecoglou is also sweating on James Maddison, who was forced off with a knock to his ankle against Chelsea, while Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon and Ryan Sessegnon are already sidelined long-term.
