Tottenham ‘close’ to fifth summer signing after Spurs reach personal terms agreement

Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici have already been hard at work this summer improving their squad for the upcoming season. Tottenham made a late charge in the previous campaign under the Italian manager and secured an unlikely top four finish.

That means Spurs will be back in the Champions League, with the club backing Conte in the transfer market after. Four signings have already come through the door, with a total of roughly £85million spent so far.

Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic were the first two to join on free transfers, while Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma made the switch for roughly £25million. Richarlison is the latest to join in a statement signing for roughly £60million.

It outlines the beginning of a plan set out by the head coach at the end of the season: “We need to improve a lot. Next season the league will be very difficult for all the teams. With five subs you can change a game.

“If the bench is strong like a top team, like City, Chelsea, United and Liverpool, you need to improve a lot your squad in quality aspect and numerical aspect. You have to face in England three national competitions and one in the Champions League.”

One area for added depth appears to be at centre-back, given Conte’s desire to play three of them in his system. And, according to Fabrizio Romano, Clement Lenglet is close to being the fifth addition of the window on loan.

The reporter claims that the agreement between Tottenham and Barcelona is in the final stages, while personal terms have already been agreed. The 27-year-old has struggled in Catalonia for the past two seasons, however he has shown glimpses of his ability.

His left foot is his stronger side, which would allow him to play in a role that only Ben Davies currently specialises in. His quality could be much-needed in a long season coming up for the north London outfit.
