Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris apologises to manager, teammates and fans after charge for drink driving

Hugo Lloris has apologised after he was charged by police for drink driving in the early hours of Friday morning.

The Tottenham and France captain failed a roadside breathalyser test in London at around 2.30am, and was taken to Charing Cross Police Station before being released on bail.

Lloris said in a statement: “I wish to apologise wholeheartedly to my family, the club, my teammates, the manager and all of the supporters. Drink driving is completely unacceptable, I take full responsibility for my actions and it is not the example I wish to set.”

Tottenham, who play Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday evening, said: “The club takes matters such as this extremely seriously and it will be dealt with internally.”

It is unclear yet whether or not Lloris will feature in Spurs’ matchday squad for the game. Michel Vorm would be most likely to step in as his replacement in the team.

Lloris has been with Tottenham since 2012 and has made 254 appearances for the north London club.
