Tottenham can complete 30-month transfer scouting mission to sign £54m Antonio Conte favourite

Tottenham have sacked Nuno Espirito Santo after just four months in charge.

Espirito Santo, who was appointed on June 30th, was relieved from his duties on Monday morning following Spurs' 3-0 loss to Manchester United over the weekend.

It was Spurs' fifth Premier League loss of the season as goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford meant the Red Devils clinched all three points at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Now, the Lillywhites are being linked with former Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte, with Sky Italia claiming that Conte could fly to England in the coming hours to hold talks with the north London club after being offered an 18-month contract by the club.

Conte rejected a move to N17 over the summer before Espirito Santo was eventually appointed instead.

Talks between Spurs and the former Juventus boss, who won three Serie A titles during his time in Turin, are thought to be well advanced, with negotiations reportedly already in the final stages.

If Tottenham are able to bring Conte to the club, then perhaps they would be finally able to complete the signing of Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, who has been strongly linked with a move to the Lillywhites since the summer of 2019.

Skriniar, who is valued at £54million on Transfermarkt, enjoyed a productive 2020/21 campaign under Conte's stewardship at the Nerazzurri has previously lauded the Italian coach, admitting that his winning mentality is a huge boost for players.

"He changed a lot of things, we are more structured now, everybody defends and participates to the build-up", the Slovakian international told Tuttosport earlier this year.

"We learn something useful in every game. Probably not everybody likes our style, but only winning matters, even if you do not play that well.”

"I had never featured in a five-man back-line before and had some troubles adjusting to it at the beginning. However, Conte conveys what he wants to the players very well and that improves you little by little every day. He deserves a lot of credit for making me a more complete defender.”
