Tottenham boss Nuno's concerning admission over new boy Bryan Gil after debut

Tottenham Hotspur boss Nuno Espirito Santo admitted that Spurs still need to work out the best way to utilise new boy Bryan Gil.

The exciting young winger was handed his debut in the disappointing 1-0 Europa Conference League defeat to Pacos de Ferreira on Thursday night.

He made a strong early impression during his first taste of action since his £21.6m transfer earlier in the summer, with a couple of dazzling early dribbles down the left-hand side of Spurs front three.

However, with Tottenham trailing and looking to salvage something from the game ahead of the second leg, Gil was shunted out to the right hand side after the break.

And Spurs boss Nuno admitted after the game that the tactical switch was far from ideal for the youngster.

"I think Bryan started well, but that's my responsibility," said Nuno.

"I think we still have to find the right position for him and give him exact tasks. In this game, he changed two times his position and it's not the best way to go to improve a player."

Tottenham's debut in the new European competition saw Nuno name a youthful side, with Gil starting alongside 17-year-old prospect Dane Scarlett in attack for Spurs.

But Spurs fell behind on the stroke of the interval after Lucas Da Silva De Jesus drilled past fellow debutant Pierluigi Gollini in goal.

Gil was switched to the right-hand flank following the introduction of Jack Clarke for the second half.

The Spaniard appeared to have the freedom to drift around in a free role at times later in the game as Spurs desperately tried to find an attacking edge.

The lack of creativity will be a concern, with Spurs managing to muster just three shots all game - failing to hit the target at all.

The disappointing result brings Nuno and his side crashing back down to earth after the weekend's excellent 1-0 win over Manchester City.

Spurs toppled the reigning Premier League champions without their talisman Harry Kane, who was left out of the side as his transfer saga rumbles on.

City are desperate to strike a deal to bring the England captain to the Etihad - but so far Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has refused to play ball.

Kane was left behind for the trip to Portugal, but Nuno hinted on Thursday night that Kane could be set to play some part against his former club Wolves at the weekend.

Nuno said: "He trained today. He trained with the group of players that stayed in England."

"He trained well and he is going to train tomorrow and when we return he will join all the players and work as the group and Harry in it."

Kane returning to the fold would be a boost for Nuno - even if there are no guarantees that he will remain at the club long-term.

With just two weeks remaining in the transfer window, Kane featuring against Wolves at the weekend would be another twist in the transfer tussle between Kane, Levy and City - with time running out to find a resolution.
