Nuno Espirito Santo insists that he wouldn’t swap Harry Kane for Romelu Lukaku.
The two frontmen will look to outperform each other on Sunday as they face off for the first time this season when Tottenham host Chelsea in the Premier League.
Lukaku has found the net four times in as many appearances since securing his £97.5million return to Stamford Bridge from Inter Milan whilst Kane, who wanted a transfer of his own in the summer window, has scored just twice this season, with both goals coming in the newly established Europa Conference League.
Although England’s captain has struggled for form in the Premier League, he’ll want to get up and running as soon as possible, and luckily, his manager is more than confident that he will.
Espirito Santo was asked if he would consider swapping Kane for Lukaku, but the Portuguese quickly backed his man.
“I don’t even consider that option - it’s something I don’t think about,” he said, via the Mirror.
“Harry [Kane] is an amazing player. His quality and talent have impressed me.”
Spurs have slipped to seventh in the table following a poor performance against Crystal Palace last weekend. Nevertheless, they’ve still taken nine points from a possible 12, and with a fully fit and firing Kane, they will improve on that tally.
But Espirito Santo is cautious that Kane still needs to improve his fitness as he searches to find form again.
“Harry has to improve,” he added. “We are in that process of trying to find the best levels of fitness. But his dedication has been huge.”
