Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo facing decision over key player he could lose this summer

Tottenham have one first-team player out of contract next summer who could open talks with clubs abroad over a pre-contractual agreement in January.

Club captain Hugo Lloris ’ contract at Spurs runs out at the end of the season after what would be 10 years at the club since he joined from Lyon in 2012.

The 34-year-old discussed the contract in an interview with the Evening Standard last month, claiming: ““There’s nothing from the club [about a contract],” before adding. “It’s not a problem, I’m totally focused. We’ll see later about [that] but there’s no issue at all. We know each other very well.”

The potential departure could cause concern for both head coach Nuno Espirito Santo and Director of Football Fabio Paratici and may force them to look into the market for a successor to their number one goalkeeper. Whilst Pierluigi Gollini could be that option, he is yet to convince in a Tottenham shirt.

Spurs will also see both Cristian Romero and Gollini end their loan spells with the club, however there are clauses in both deals that would allow the club to sign them at the end of the loan on a permanent deal.

Lloris has become a key part of the playing squad during his time at the club.

The France captain has made 380 competitive appearances for Tottenham since making the move to north London, becoming the established first-team goalkeeper for both club and country in that time.

He helped guide France to a World Cup victory in Russia in 2018 as well as a Nations League trophy just this week.

The hierarchy at the club have a big decision to make over the coming months as to whether Lloris will be offered a new contract to stay at the club or if herb will be given the opportunity to leave at the end of the season.
