Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo delivers disappointing update on Ryan Sessegnon's injury

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has admitted that Ryan Sessegnon is "out for a while" with current injury.

The England U21 international has been out since picking up a knock on international duty in September.

In his press conference on Wednesday, Espirito Santo appeared to indicate that he hoped that he would have good news on both Sessegnon and the also injured Matt Doherty next week.

However, in an update for Spurs' own website, just before the players flew out to the Netherlands for their Europa Conference League group stage match at Vitesse, Espirito Santo seemed to be slightly less optimistic about Sessegnon's timeframe and that it would only be Doherty who would be returning soon.

"They are getting better. Unfortunately, they cannot join the group yet, but it’s a matter of time before we have good news," he said.

"Like I’ve said, we’re going to need all the players. Unfortunately, Matt was injured on international duty, Sess, he’s out for a while, it’s going to take longer, but I'm positive that Matt can join us next week."

Sessegnon has had plenty of misfortune with injury since he arrived at Tottenham, arriving at the club with a serious hamstring problem suffered at the European U21 Championships with England in the summer of 2019.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a good loan at Hoffenheim last season where he got plenty of starts under his belt as a left-back of left wing-back.

However, he returned to Tottenham in the summer and picked up another hamstring injury in pre-season and then after coming back to make a couple of appearances in Europe, he picked up the knock last month with England's U21s.

Now it appears that it could yet be a little while before he can pull on a Tottenham shirt again.
