Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino accepts referee's 'mistake' after Spurs are denied penalty at Man City

Mauricio Pochettino accepted the referee's decision not to award his side a penalty in the defeat at Manchester City despite declaring "all of humanity" could see the "mistake".

Phil Foden scored his first Premier League goal early in the first half as City made it 10 wins on the spin in the league with a 1-0 win over Spurs.

The defeat means Tottenham could end the current gameweek outside the top four, but Pochettino felt his side side should have had a chance to equalise from the spot when Dele Alli chested the ball onto Kyle Walker's arm in the area.

He told beIN Sports: "For me and maybe not for Manchester City but for me and for the rest of humanity I think yes it was a penalty.'

However, the Spurs boss refused to moan, instead praising his side's second showing at the Etihad in three days.

"I'm not going to complain, I think it was a clear handball, but we accept the decision that he didn't give a penalty," he added.

"The referee can make a mistake like us and we need to move on.

"I was so happy with the performance, especially in difficult circumstances. I thought we deserved a draw but sometimes you don't get that, and we move on."
