Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has admitted that he deserved to land a yellow card in his side's 1-0 defeat at Southampton on New Year's Day.
Referee Mike Dean handed Mourinho a caution after he approached the Southampton bench in the second half of the encounter at St Mary's Stadium.
There have been claims that Mourinho allegedly attempted to look at Southampton's tactics on a piece of paper, with the opposition bench reacting negatively.
Mourinho explained that he was right to be given a yellow for the 'rude' incident but he also labelled a member of the Southampton staff an 'idiot' after the contest.
"I deserved the yellow card because I was rude, but I was rude with an idiot," Mourinho told BT Sport.
"But I clearly deserved a yellow card because I was rude."
Asked if would expand on what was said, Mourinho offered a brief explanation.
"No, I was rude. Basically I had bad words with the guy."
On the defeat, Mourinho added: "It was quite a strange game. We had no problems defensively. They didn't create great problems.
"We see the bad result today which is the continuity of the last year. For 12 months, it has been very difficult to get results away from home.
"The work is not about buying, it is about working with the players on the pitch."
