Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho showed Mikel Arteta and Arsenal how to beat Manchester United

Gary Neville compared Arsenal's win against Manchester United to a classic Jose Mourinho display.

The Gunners ran out 1-0 winners as they nullified the hosts' attack and controlled the game well.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, Neville said it was the sort of result and performance that should give the Gunners plenty of confidence.

He also praised Mikel Arteta for his tactics during the game, arguing they were reminiscent of how Mourinho used to set teams up.

"Just better," he said of Arsenal. "Compact, better shape. Organised gameplan.

"Last week I did the Manchester United against Chelsea game and I never got the feeling either team had the intent to score but I didn't get that with this.

Mikel Arteta impressed by how well Gabriel and Partey have settled in

"I thought Manchester United were going to get desperate and try and score and Arsenal had a gameplan to go and get one and win 1-0 and they did that.

"It just felt to me, from minute one to minute 90, Mikel Arteta knew everything he was going to do before the game and it worked out that way.

"I remember a good few years ago now using the phrase 'Mourinho masterclass' and it was a bit like that.

"It was almost like a boxer, just waiting and waiting, and he knew eventually that the other guy would get desperate and he'd go and floor him and that's what happened. Then they just shut up shop at the end and saw out the last couple of rounds.

"They managed the game well, it was a really good performance from Arsenal."

He added: "Mikel Arteta has demonstrated really good qualities as a coach. I know that, before this game, Arsenal found themselves in a poor position in the league but this will give them real confidence.

"They played at Manchester City, Liverpool and also Leicester, who are a very awkward team, and now they've played Manchester United, so they've had a far more difficult run than some of the teams around them.

"I think they'll great confidence from that, we saw his celebration at the end. It was a job really well done by Arsenal, really professional."
