Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho's blunt Zinedine Zidane admission and the exciting Gareth Bale injury bulletin

Zinedine Zidane is "happy" that Gareth Bale has left Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho has claimed.

The Tottenham boss has revealed he did not speak with the Frenchman over the loan capture of the Welshman.

Although having seen Bale's relationship with Zidane deteriorate in the Spanish capital, Mourinho says the Real Madrid manager will be pleased to see the back of the 31-year-old.

“I didn’t speak with Zinedine, but I believe that Zinedine is happy that he left," the Portuguese told Sky Sports.

“We are happy that he is here. Gareth of course is happy to be here. So hopefully in the end of the season, we are all happy, and he can stay with us.

"Happiness is very important in life, it's very important in football. I feel that with my own experiences, you have to be happy to perform."

Bale is set to spend the duration of the 2020/21 campaign on loan with Spurs, who are believed to have the option of extending that deal by an additional season.

The Cardiff-born star is currently sidelined with a knee problem and is not expected to be available to feature until after the October international break.

But, having overseen the early stages of his recovery, Mourinho is confident that Bale can reproduce his best form once he's back on the pitch.

"Of course, he's not ready to play, it will take a little bit, but the way he's working with the medical and sports science [staff] makes me believe that when we have him, we will have the player that he is," added Mourinho.

Bale joined Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2013 for a then world record fee of £85m.

He won two La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues, a Copa del Rey, three FIFA Club World Cups, a Spanish Super Cup and two UEFA Super Cups during his time in Spain.
