Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho opens up on reasons for reactivating Instagram account

Jose Mourinho insists he does not use his Instagram account to send messages to his Tottenham players.

The Portuguese boss has returned to the social media platform having closed his account several years ago.

He has since posted several entertaining photos with some captions that leave little to the imagination.

Following Tottenham's loss at Royal Antwerp he uploaded a picture of himself with the caption: "Bad performances deserve bad results. Hope everyone in this bus is as upset as I am."

But when asked whether the motive of reactivating his Instagram account was to send messages to his players he told Sky Sports : "No it was not the objective.

"I'm still not an Instagram man in my nature.

"I have to be honest, I was asked by my sponsors to do it. They felt that when I closed my account a few years ago we had a few million followers and they weren't happy.

"So now I'm doing bit by bit, quite funny. It is no problem."

The vast majority of footballers are now on Instagram meaning they have the opportunity to view their manager's public profile.

But Mourinho has never enquired as to whether his squad choose to read his posts.

"Do my players look at it and read it - I have no idea. Also the diversity of the posts I think is just good fun and if people want to follow then no problem."

Tottenham's recent win over Brighton was their fourth of the season and leaves them just two points behind leaders Liverpool.

The north Londoners play before the Reds and have an opportunity to go top for at least a few hours.

They travel to West Brom who are yet to win this term.
