Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho believes referee Graham Scott should explain decision over Brighton goal

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho called for referee Graham Scott to explain his decision not to rule out Tariq Lamptey's goal in the 2-1 win over Brighton on Sunday.

Scott awarded Brighton's second-half equaliser despite Solly March appearing to foul Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the build-up.

After a recommendation from the VAR, Jon Moss, Scott watched a replay of the incident on the pitchside monitor but stuck with his decision not to award a goal.

"They are decisions that I think they should explain and not leaving us in front of you, and us explaining things that many, many times we don't find any explanation to it. So I prefer not to speak about it," Mourinho said afterwards.

"I see Scott as a good referee. He had the opportunity to go to the screen and watch on the screen the same thing we watched on the bench on our iPad.

"He should explain but I know that's not going to happen so let's move on and speak about a very difficult match that we won."

It was not the only contentious decision of the evening, with the VAR awarding Spurs a 13th-minute penalty for Adam Lallana's foul on Harry Kane after Scott had initially blown for a free-kick.

The England captain sent Brighton debutant Rob Sanchez the wrong way from the spot and Brighton felt they should have had a penalty of their own ten minutes later, when Matt Doherty grappled with Leandro Trossard.

Moss decided against awarding a spot-kick on video review, leaving Seagulls boss Graham Potter with his hands on his head in disbelief.
