Tottenham boost as Harry Kane recovers from virus in time for Champions League trip to Belgrade

Harry Kane has recovered from a virus to hand Tottenham a major boost ahead of their crunch Uefa Champions League clash against Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday.

The England captain missed Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Everton but was included in the squad which flew out to the Serbian capital this morning and is fit to return.

Heung-min Son has also travelled with the squad after he was left traumatised by Andre Gomes’ horrific injury on Sunday.

The forward was visibly distressed after his tackle led to Gomes’ suffering a fracture dislocation to his right ankle.

The South Korean was in tears in the aftermath of the incident and Mauricio Pochettino must now weigh up whether he is in the right frame of mind to feature. With uncertainty around Son, Kane’s return is a huge boost for Pochettino. Spurs struggled without him at Everton and need a positive result to lift some of the gloom around the club and boost their chances of reaching the knockout stages. Spurs are second in Group B, one point above Red Star, with three games remaining.

Pochettino was also weighing up whether to spare Danny Rose an uncomfortable trip to Belgrade, seven years on from being subjected to racial abuse there while playing for England Under-21s.

Spurs, meanwhile, have confirmed they have appealed Son’s red card. If the punishment is upheld, Son will be suspended for the League matches against Sheffield United, West Ham and Bournemouth.
