Tottenham beat West Ham as 24,790 fans attend first Women's Super League match at London Stadium

West Ham Women suffered a disappointing defeat to Tottenham in their first fixture to be held at London Stadium.

Sunday was a landmark day for the Hammers, who usually play their home fixtures at Rush Green, with a crowd of 24,790 people - the second-largest in Women's Super League history - in attendance at the former Olympic venue to watch the London derby.

However, it was Spurs that took bragging rights from the contest, with Rianna Dean giving Karen Hills' team the lead nine minutes before the interval after heading home Rosella Ayane's cross from the left flank.

Martha Thomas and Adriana Leon both went close, while Kenza Dali was twice denied as West Ham toiled in search of an equaliser.

They were to pay for their profligacy six minutes from time, when Lucy Quinn sealed victory for Tottenham on her 26th birthday with a shot after a free-kick.

West Ham's second defeat of the season leaves them in eighth place, while Tottenham rise to fifth.

Elsewhere in the Women's Super League on Sunday, leaders Arsenal thrashed Brighton 4-0 thanks to goals from Kim Little, Vivianne Miedema, Danielle van de Donk and Jordan Nobbs.

Title rivals Manchester City kept pace with the Gunners as Steph Houghton's seventh-minute free-kick sunk Everton, while the match between Birmingham and Reading was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Meanwhille, Chelsea are up to third after Guro Reiten's brace and further efforts from Ji So-yun and Sophie Ingle sealed a 4-0 win over Bristol City.

On Saturday, Manchester United triumphed in their first WSL meeting with Liverpool courtesy of second-half goals from Lauren James and Katie Zelem.
