Tottenham assured NFL remain committed to London games

London Mayor Sadiq Khan is confident the NFL remains committed to London despite puling its planned matches from the capital in 2020.

Two games had been scheduled for Wembley with a further two at Tottenham Stadium during the regular season but the NFL last night announced all games during the 2020 season, which is planned to get under way in September, would take place on American soil.

But Khan allayed fears that would mean the end of NFL’s association with London, which has hosted regular games since the international series began in 2007.

Khan said: “While the NFL’s many fans in London, the UK and Europe will obviously be disappointed by this news, it is absolutely the right decision to ensure the safety of everyone involved in the sport.

“I know that the NFL remains fully committed to London and I look forward to welcoming NFL teams back to the capital in 2021.”
