Tottenham are a good match for Liverpool in title race, writes Alan Smith

I don't see a big difference between a full-strength Tottenham side and Liverpool, favourites to win the title until this week.

For me, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino aren’t superior to Harry Kane, Dele Alli or Christian Eriksen. The midfielders are also well matched, if a little functional compared to other sides.

The only area Liverpool hold the upper hand is in defence, but even there some very shoddy moments have created doubt. So if that carries on and Kane returns fairly soon, Spurs should not give up hope.

To stay in the hunt, though, they’ve got to beat a counter-attacking Leicester side more suited to playing away. Following on from late winners against Fulham, Watford and Newcastle, Spurs might need another here.

Silva stats show startling trend

Are the stats simply a coincidence or do they point to something more worrying?

Marco Silva’s track records at Hull, Watford and Everton are spookily similar. He starts off like a train, achieving fantastic results with an exciting side before falling away in startling fashion.

The fact it’s happening again at Goodison Park must sound some alarm bells, given the huge amount of money spent last summer.

Mind you, the Watford fans are unlikely to show much sympathy, having seen their old manager’s head turned by Everton’s offer.
