Tottenham appoint Rob Mackenzie as chief scout as new technical director Johan Lange begins work

Tottenham have appointed Rob Mackenzie as chief scout after new technical director Johan Lange began work this week.

Mackenzie returns to Spurs from Aston Villa, where he was head of recruitment working under Lange.

He was Spurs' head of player ID from February 2015 to August 2016, a period in which the club signed the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Kieran Trippier and Heung-min Son.

Mackenzie has since worked for Derby and Belgian club OH Leuven, joining Villa in August 2020 and helping to sign Ollie Watkins and Emiliano Martinez.

The 38-year-old replaces Leonardo Gabbanini, who left as chief scout in September before the recruitment of Lange from Villa.

The recruitment department has been extensively overhauled, with managing director Fabio Paratici resigning in April and performance director Gretar Steinsson leaving in June.

Paratici has continued working for the club on a consultancy basis, while Scott Munn has taken up the role of chief football officer which is effectively chairman Daniel Levy's No.2
