Tottenham appoint new director of football operations as search continues for a new striker

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest for Wednesday, September 2.

Restructure revealed

Former Swansea City chairman Trevor Birch has arrived at Tottenham to take on the role of director of football operations.

It is part of a restructure at the top of the club in terms of how the football side of Spurs is run.

Former director of football operations, Rebecca Caplehorn, takes on a new role whilst there is also a major promotion for chief scout Steve Hitchen.

Striker search analysed

Spurs continue to try to fix the problems in Jose Mourinho's squad this transfer window.

The Portuguese manager has previously taken issue at the unbalanced nature of the squad he inherited, with numerous options in some areas and lack of depth elsewhere.

A striker remains on Spurs' shopping list, though.

Whether it is to play alongside or to take the pressure off Harry Kane, Mourinho has continually stated Spurs' need for a new striker.

The likes of Calum Wilson and Josh King have been linked with a move to Spurs, but who should they bring in?

Who faces Watford?

Whilst multiple Spurs players head off on international duty this week, Spurs still have a pre-season friendly ahead of kicking off the season against Everton.

Jose Mourinho's side will face Watford at Vicarage Road in a behind-closed-doors friendly ahead of the Premier League kick-off.

Harry Kane and Eric Dier will be on England duty whilst Harry Winks has withdrawn from Gareth Southgate's Three Lions squad so will also be missing.

New signings Matt Doherty and Pierre-Emile Hojgbjerg will be with their respective international squads.

There are currently 17 senior players still at Spurs who could play against Watford - yet five of them are yet to feature during pre-season.
