Tottenham appeal Son Heung-min's red card following Andre Gomes challenge

Tottenham have appealed to the Football Association following Son Heung-min's red card in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Everton.

The attacker was dismissed in the 79th minute for his tackle which unfortunately led to Andre Gomes' horrific ankle injury.

Referee Martin Atkinson had initially reached for his yellow card following the challenge, before then instead brandishing his red card after seeing the severity of the injury as the Portuguese international lay on the ground in agony.

Son was left visibly distressed after the incident and Everton captain Seamus Coleman ended up going to see him in the dressing room after the draw.

Speaking to the media after the game, Mauricio Pochettino was asked whether or not the club would be appealing the player's suspension but he admitted that he was unsure over what was going to happen.

"I don't know what will happen now, the club will see if possible or not," he said.

"What we cannot change is all that happened after the red card."

Facing the prospect of having to do without the 27-year-old for the upcoming Premier League games against Sheffield United, West Ham and Bournemouth, football.london understands that the club have in fact lodged an appeal as they bid to get it overturned.

An outcome is expected from the FA during the week.

If Spurs fail in their appeal over the red card, the next league game Son will be available to feature in will come at the start of December as they face Manchester United at Old Trafford.
