Tottenham: Antonin Kinsky breaks silence with first message after Champions League nightmare

Nightmare: Antonin Kinsky - (Getty Images)

Antonin Kinsky has broken his silence for the first time since his nightmare Champions League debut for Tottenham on Tuesday.

The Czech goalkeeper was selected in a big call made by Igor Tudor for Spurs’ last 16 first leg against Atletico Madrid, replacing first-choice shot-stopper Guglielmo Vicario between the sticks.

However, his evening ended after just 17 minutes, with Spurs 3-0 down and Kinsky making two errors that led directly to Atletico goals.

The first was a stray pass seized upon by Ademola Lookman, who slotted across the box for Marcos Llorente to open the scoring, and the second was a complete miskick , which Julian Alvarez pounced upon to tap home a third for the home side on the night.

The game ended 5-2, but Kinsky was hooked on 17 minutes, with Vicario replacing him.

Spurs interim head coach Tudor was scolded by pundits for his treatment of his 22-year-old goalkeeper, refusing to acknowledge him as he made his way straight down the tunnel.

Now, Kinsky has taken to Instagram to express his gratitude for the support shown to him in the aftermath of a nightmare showing.

“Thanks for the messages,” he wrote on his story.

“From dream to nightmare to dream again. See you.”

Real Madrid ‘keeper Thibaut Courtois revealed after his side’s 3-0 win over Manchester City on Wednesday that he had messaged Kinsky to offer his consolation.

“I sent an Instagram DM to Tottenham's goalkeeper Kinsky, because what happened to him was tough, it's hard mentally," the former Chelsea man said.

“Atletico's pitch causes problems for every team."

Ex-Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea also sent his support to Kinsky on X, writing: "No one who hasn't been a goalkeeper can understand how difficult it is to play in this position. Keep your head up and you will go again."
