Tottenham: Ange Postecoglou reveals potential triple Spurs injury blow for Brighton finale

Future uncertain: It remains to be seen if Ange Postecoglou will remain as Tottenham manager next season - (Adam Davy/PA Wire)

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Cristian Romero and Heung-min Son will both miss Sunday’s Premier League season finale against Brighton.

The Australian revealed that Romero has been struggling with a toe injury for some time, while captain Son has a foot issue. Both played through their injuries to appear in Wednesday night’s Europa League final win over Manchester United in Bilbao.

Postecoglou told reporters on Saturday: “Romero has been struggling with his toe for some time so we'll leave him out, and Sonny as well.”

The Spurs boss added that midfielder Yves Bissouma would face a late fitness test after picking up a knock in the final in midweek.

“Bissouma got a knock in the game, so he's kinda 50/50 at the moment,” Postecoglou said. “The rest of them, physically anyway, are okay.”

Postecoglou also confirmed that Mathys Tel would likely feature against Brighton, though talks have not yet taken place to determine the Bayern Munich loanee’s long-term future.

Lucas Bergvall flew to Bilbao with the Spurs squad ahead of the Europa League final earlier this week but was ruled out ahead of the match. He is not expected to be involved on Sunday, either.

Dejan Kulusevski remains absent, having undergone surgery on his knee earlier this month. Postecoglou is unsure whether he will be ready in time for the start of next season, saying he had “only basic information” about his recovery.

James Maddison had previously been ruled out for the season after suffering a knee injury in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final tie against Bodo/Glimt, with Radu Dragusin also a long-term absentee for Tottenham after undergoing a knee operation in February.
