Tottenham: Ange Postecoglou issues worrying James Maddison injury update amid Dominic Solanke latest

Concern: James Maddison - (REUTERS)

James Maddison’s involvement in Tottenham’s Europa League semi-final second leg against Bodo/Glimt is in serious doubt, manager Ange Postecoglou has revealed.

The midfielder was forced off with a knee injury updat the first leg, having earlier scored, and the Spurs boss admitted in the hours afterwards that “it doesn’t look great”.

Maddison has undergone a scan but, before receiving the full prognosis, Postecoglou expressed fresh concern over the player’s availability.

Speaking after Sunday’s 1-1 draw at West Ham, Postecoglou said: “No, it doesn’t look great, but we’re just waiting for further information.

“We’ll just wait and see. We’ll probably get some clarity tomorrow [Monday]. It is fair to say it’s not looking promising, but we’ll just wait and see.”

It’s better news for Dominic Solanke, however, with the striker in contention for the second leg.

Postecoglou also brought Solanke off in the second half of the first leg due to the striker feeling pain in his quad.

“Dom is improving,” the Spurs boss said on Sunday. “We left him out today, but the medical team are pretty confident he should be alright for Thursday.”

Tottenham ended a four-game losing run away from home with a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium, where Wilson Odobert’s opener was cancelled out by a strike from Jarrod Bowen.

“I’m proud of the players’ efforts,” Postecoglou said. “It’s not easy, making so many changes. It’s going to affect the fluency. The individual players haven’t played a lot regularly.

“I thought the efforts today were outstanding. We were disappointed with the goal we conceded, but aside from that we nullified their threat as well as we could.”

The Spurs boss added: “I think we were dangerous going the other way. I’m glad they got some reward. It’s obviously not a win, but I’m glad they got some reward.”
